Ali Abdel Khalik is an Egyptian director, who was born in Cairo on June 9, 1944. He joined the High Film Institute and studied directing. He was influenced by leftist ideologies in his youth, which was reflected in his early films. One of the most famous of these films is his documentary “ A Farewell Song” which documented the mass funeral of late president Gamal Abdel Nasser. The film won many international awards from documentary and short film festivals, including the second prize from the Leipzig Film Festival in Germany. His film "Suez, My City" won the grand prize from the Ministry of Culture's first documentary festival in 1970. His debut film in 1972 was called “A Song on the Passageway”, which was written originally as a play by Ali Salem. The film achieved tremendous artistic success and won the second prize from Karlovy Vary International.
